MSW program Options

1-Year Advanced Standing

  • Only applicants with a bachelor’s degree in social work (BSW) can be considered for Advanced Standing; See Advanced Standing tab on the left for more information
  • Located at the main UNC Charlotte campus
  • Classes primarily meet face to face during the daytime; occasional hybrid or online courses
  • This plan of study only begins each summer (May)
  • 1 year of study completed over 3 semesters (summer, fall, spring)
  • In addition to classes, 16 hour per week internship is completed during the fall and spring semesters

2-Year

  • Located at the main UNC Charlotte campus
  • Classes primarily face to face and meet during the daytime; occasional hybrid or online courses
  • This plan of study only begins each fall (August)
  • 2 years of study (fall/spring semesters)
  • In addition to classes, a 16 hour per week internship is completed during the fall and spring semesters of year 1 and 2

3-Year Blended*

*The School of Social Work is currently transitioning this plan of study to be a fully online program. We do not have an exact date for that transition, but we anticipate the fully online program starting within the next year.  Below is the current and predicted structure of the program.

 

Current 3-Year Blended Program

  • Currently hybrid and online classes
  • 3 years of study (summer/fall/spring semesters for 3 years - 9 total semesters)
  • This program begins only in the summer semester (May)
  • Students meet at Center City Campus for hybrid classes
  • In addition to classes, a 16 hour per week internship is completed during the fall and spring semesters of years 2 and 3

 

Future 3-Year Online Program

  • Fully online classes
  • Online classes meet in synchronous "live" sessions or asynchronous "not live" sessions 
  • Immersion Experience: Visits to campus, in-person and virtual, that will extend classroom learning and provide professional development opportunities. Students will also be able to network with other 3-year program cohorts.  Dates and meeting platforms will be announced at the beginning of each semester.
  • 3 years of study (summer/fall/spring semesters for 3 years - 9 total semesters)
  • Start date for this program is to be determined
  • In addition to classes, a 16 hour per week internship is completed during the fall and spring semesters of years 2 and 3
  • Those who start in the blended program will be transitioned to the online program
