LISTEN: Social Work Alumna Fights Human Trafficking

Categories: General News

Charlotte is a hot spot for human trafficking. North Carolina is a top-ten state for the practice and because of its geography, Charlotte is the number one city for human trafficking in the state. Young people are particularly vulnerable to this and some groups are jumping in to respond.

Master of Social Work alumna Shawna Pagano is among those leading efforts in Charlotte. Pagano was recently hired as Mecklenburg County Coordinator for Project No Rest, a statewide project to increase awareness and prevention around human trafficking and how it affects children and young people in North Carolina. Pagona joined a panel of experts on WFAE’s “Charlotte Talks” to discuss human trafficking in North Carolina and what her organization is doing to stop it.
