MSW Plans of Study

The School of Social Work at UNC Charlotte offers three plans of study.  

Advanced Standing (AS) - 1 year

  • Located at the main UNC Charlotte campus

  • Classes primarily meet during the daytime

  • This plan of study only begins each summer (May)

  • 1 year of study completed over 3 semesters (summer, fall, spring)

  • Two days of internship per week during the fall and spring semesters

  • Only applicants with a bachelor’s degree in social work (BSW) can be considered for Advanced Standing; See Advanced Standing tab on the left for more information

Full-time (FT) - 2 Years

  • Located at the main UNC Charlotte campus

  • Classes primarily meet during the daytime

  • This plan of study only begins each fall (August)

  • 2 years of study (fall/spring semesters)

  • In addition to classes, a 16 hour per week internship is required  during the fall and spring semesters of year 1 and 2

Part-time (PT) - Hybrid/Saturday format - 3 Years

  • Located at the Center City UNC Charlotte campus

  • Classes meet on Saturdays when face-to-face (approximately 5-6 times per semester) and work is completed online in between face-to-face sessions

  • This plan of sudy only begins each summer (May)

  • 3 years of study (summer/fall/spring)

  • In addition to classes, a 16 hour per week internship is required during the fall and spring semesters of year 1 and 2

UNC Charlotte does not offer a plan of study that is completely online.
