Who We Are
The Department of Social Work is comprised of 16 faculty and staff members and over 100 BSW and 100 MSW students.  Our mission emphasizes a commitment to reaching out to the region's most vulnerable populations with a commitment to a just and caring society, free of prejudice and oppression.

Degrees
Our BSW and MSW degrees are fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.  The BSW degree prepares social workers for beginning level (generalist) social work practice.  The MSW is implement via the traditional 2 year program, a 3 year extended option, and an advanced standing program.  The concentration for the MSW program is centered on Interpersonal Practice (intervention with individuals, families, and groups).  MSW students select a field of practice emphasis in one of the following areas:  children & families, health/mental health, or aging.

Research
The Department views research as a critical means for advancing the mission of our profession.  Faculty and students participate in ethical and culturally sensitive research that informs social work practice, policy, research, and education.  Faculty members have a breadth of expertise including:  mental health services, child welfare, child and youth development, violence against women, service needs of the Latino community, housing, and juvenile justice.

Service
Community and professional leadership are important elements of our mission.  Faculty members serve on a variety of local, state, and national boards and task forces.   

Where to Find Us
The Department of Social Work is located in a suite of offices on the fourth floor of the beautiful College of Health and Human Services Building.  Opened in January of 2007, our new 138, 000 square foot, $34 million dollar building has student lounges and state-of-the-art classrooms and conference rooms.
